HappyRaft Access
The Happy Raft base is located on a beautiful bend of the Yoshino River at Iwahara, Ootoyo-cho, right in the the middle of Shikoku. We’re just inside Kochi-ken, maybe 2 minutes drive upstream from the border with Tokushima-ken.
A train station, JR Tosa-Iwahara, is right next door, so it’s easy to reach us by train. If you’re driving, it takes around 4 hours from Osaka, 3 hours from Kobe, or 2 hours from Okayama or Tokushima city.
Our base is a great place to hang out, picnic, barbeque or camp, so you can really make a trip of it when you come down for some rafting or canyoning. Check out the maps on this page and read the directions below for more information about how to get here.
Access by Train
Happy Raft is less than 100 metres from JR Tosa-Iwahara station, on the JR Dosan Line about halfway between Awa Ikeda and Kochi stations. Only local trains run to Tosa-Iwahara – the express service stops at JR Oboke, but passes by Tosa-Iwahara.
Coming from Honshu, first take a train or shinkansen to Okayama, then take a “Minamikaze” express service across the Seto Bridge and down through Kagawa-ken and Tokushima-ken until it stops at JR Oboke. Get off here and change to the local train, going one stop further south to Tosa-Iwahara. Alternatively, let us know when you are due to get into JR Oboke and we will come and pick you up to bring you straight to the base. The journey from Okayama to Oboke is just under 2 hours long. The train between Oboke and Tosa-Iwahara takes about 7 minutes.
Coming from anywhere on Shikoku, find your way to JR Awa Ikeda and then get on the local service running south to Kochi city on the JR Dosan Line. The local train from Ikeda to Tosa-Iwahara takes about 45 minutes.
Thanks heaps for the great day out- much fun was had by all! I especially loved the cliff jumps- I think I could've done them all day long! No wonder I went twice! You were all very professional in what you did and gave a true Aussie feel to this experience in Japan. It's all about having FUN and not about quickly shuffling people in and shuffling them out. I'm telling all my friends about you, they're going to come and give you hell! A hell of a good time! haha Will come back in the future, bloody oath i will!
